NAMES & CHANGES

Roanoke-based Thriftee Group names president

TOM JONES has been named president of the Thriftee Group, a Roanoke-based corporation which sells pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. He will help design and execute operational and strategic development.

Jones was previously executive vice president of the Nautilus Corporation.

He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the Washington and Lee School of Law.

\ ARCHITECTURE

MARK W. SMITH of Wiley & Wilson in Lynchburg has passed the architectural examination and is now a registered architect in the state of Virginia. An employee since 1980, he has been promoted from designer to project architect.

Also, J. TERRY STRICKLAND has been promoted from designer/draftsman to designer in the civil department. He has been with Wiley & Wilson since 1991.

BANKING

LYNNE ARNOLD has been named a loan officer for Crestar Mortgage Corporation in Roanoke. She is responsible for handling all mortgage loans referred to the mortgage firm from Crestar branches in the area. She previously worked as a correspondent methods analysts for Crestar Mortgage in Richmond.

\ COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES

JENNIFER DABNEY of Roanoke has been named an administrative assistant at the Salem campus of National Business College. She will work be responsible for handling general office duties, as well as processing weekly reports for the school's eight locations. She formerly worked as an account clerk and data technician for the recycling and fleet management departments of the City of Roanoke.

Ralph Burgio has been named director of publications at Roanoke College, responsible for coordination and production of all of the school's publications. He previously worked in publications, marketing and printing jobs at the University of New Hampshire and University of Maryland and holds a master's degree in educational public relations from Glassboro State College in New Jersey.

\ COMMUNITY SERVICES

RITA M. FOSTER has been appointed to the board of directors of Mental Health Services of the Roanoke Valley by the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors. Foster has been director of Alcohol and Other Drugs Prevention and Education Programs at Hollins College for the last 10 years.

Also, RITA J. GLINIECKI, chairman of the board of directors of Mental Health Services of the Roanoke Valley, has appointed the following committee chairs: JOHN M. HUDGINS JR., budget and finance; HENRY J. SULLIVAN, community relations; SUSAN CLOETER, personnel; HARRIETTE H. SHIVERS, mental health; PAMELA K. COX, mental retardation; and CHERI. W. HARTMAN, substance abuse.

\ HUMAN RESOURCES

DEBORAH K. HEDRICK and PHILIP L. PETERS have been certified as senior professionals in human resources by the Human Resources Certification Institute. Hedrick is director of employee relations for Carilion Health System. Peters is director of human resources at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley.

MANUFACTURING

RONALD V. DOWNING of Roanoke has been named a public relations assistant with the Bleached Board Division of Westvaco Corporation in Covington. He formerly worked as a public affairs officer in the U.S. Army.

\ ORGANIZATIONS

RICHARD G. LAWSON has been elected to the board of directors of the American Warehouse Association. He is the president of H.L. Lawson & Sons in Roanoke.

A. WILLARD ARTHUR of Marvin V. Templeton & Sons in Lynchburg has been elected president of The Virginia Road and Transportation Builders Association.

The Roanoke Valley chapter of the International Management Council has elected the following officers for 1993-94: president, LAPTHE FLORA, ITT- Electro-Optical Products Division; vice president, BUREN CARTER, Appalachian Power Co.; vice president, KEITH DUNCAN, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Roanoke; vice president, MONTY SANDERS, Stephen King & Associates; treasurer, ALAN CRISS, Photo USA; and secretary, MIKE BISHOP, Norfolk Southern.
