OBIT STAFFORD, MARIAN REBEKAH, ("MISS")

STAFFORD, Marian Rebekah, ("Miss"), 85, a resident of 464 Walden Rd., N.E., Abingdon, died Saturday, May 1, 1993, in the Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Va. She was a native of Ravenswood, W. Va., who moved to Abingdon in 1921. She attended Martha Washington College and was a graduate of Emory and Henry College. She was president of the Martha Washington College Alumni Association. She was a teacher and librarian who taught in North Carolina, William King High School, Abingdon High School and Greendale Elementary School. Miss Stafford was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and had served as president of CHI and ALPHA ZETA Chapters. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Needle Club, AARP, the Booklovers Club and had served on the board of the Washington County Library. She was the parliamentarian for the Washington County Historical Society, the Anna Stonewall Jackson Chapter of the U. D. C. and she had served as a state officer in the U. D. C. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church where she taught the Ladies Bible Class in Sunday school, was the church representative of the American Bible Society and was a member of the Julia Lake Circle. Survivors include one brother, the Rev. Garland R. Stafford of Statesville, N. C.; one niece, Sarah Satterfield of Burlington, N. C.; and one nephew, Walter Edward Stafford of LaJunta, Colorado. Funeral services for Miss Marian Rebekah Stafford will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Abingdon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Larry J. Ousley officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. The men of the Abingdon United Methodist Church will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Campbell Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 Monday evening. Campbell Funeral Home of Abingdon is in charge of the arrangements.
