IBM HIRES CHRYSLER'S CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

International Business Machines Corp. said Monday it has named Chrysler Corp.'s Jerome York as its new chief financial officer.

York, who directed Chrysler's cost-cutting effort as chief financial officer there, fills the position at IBM that was vacated by Frank Metz in January.

Metz had been temporarily replaced by Paul Rizzo, a retired IBM vice chairman who was the dean of the business school at the University of North Carolina.

"Jerome York not only has extensive financial experience, but he has a significant background in operations as well," said IBM Chairman Louis Gerstner.

York, 54, was elected executive vice president for finance and chief financial officer of Chrysler in 1990 and a Chrysler director in 1992. - Knight-Ridder/Tribune
