FLOYD DUMPS RADFORD

Peter Bucklin had two doubles and three RBI on Monday as Floyd defeated Radford 9-4 in a non-district high school baseball game.

Josh Howery added two hits and two RBI for the Buffaloes, and Sammy Burton pitched three innings of relief for the win. For the Bobcats, Eric Brittle had a home run and two RBI.

In other baseball:

At Amherst, the host Lancers had 11 hits and scored three runs in the fourth inning to beat Liberty 4-1. Curt Goff homered for the Minutemen.

At Moneta, reliever Brandon Inge struck out five in the last two innings to save Brookville's 6-5 win over Staunton River. Patrick Muncher hit a solo homer and pitched the win for the Bees.

At Wytheville, winning pitcher Randy Blevins drove in three runs as George Wythe crushed Rural Retreat 16-6 in a Hogoheegee District game. Eric Sayers was 2-for-4 with four RBI and Tony Callahan 3-for-3 with three RBI for Wythe (5-6 overall, 5-6 district).

At Glenvar, Rob Robinson's first-inning, three-run home run got the Highlanders started on an 8-1 Pioneer District victory over Bath County. Joey Hutton was 3-for-4 and scored three runs and Eric East was 2-for-4 for Glenvar (4-4-1, 4-2). David Henderson and Jason Anderson combined on a five-hitter. Bath County is 4-2 in the district.

At North Cross, Brian Hurt's third-inning grand slam sent Roanoke Valley Christian (6-4, 6-4) to a 10-3 Virginia Independent Conference victory. Hurt, who was 2-for-4, connected to make the score 5-0. Jason Davis had two hits, including a solo home run, for North Cross (3-9, 3-7).

\ SOFTBALL: At Bedford, Joanne Harris hit a bases-clearing triple to key Liberty's 5-2 win over Amherst. Kelly Witt added two hits and two runs scored for the Minettes (8-3-1).

Donna Hickman pitched a six-inning no-hitter - and just missed a perfect game - as Magna Vista crushed host Martinsville 20-0 in a Piedmont District game. Hickman faced 19 batters, one more than the minimum, in a game shortened because of the 10-run rule.

At Glenvar, Jennifer Dennis was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI as Glenvar defeated Northside 6-1. Bobbie Jo Wright struck out nine for the Highlanders (8-5) while giving up three hits. Shannon Yopp was 2-for-3 with a double for the Vikings (3-6).

At Rocky Mount, Stephanie Webb was 4-for-4 with five RBI as Roanoke Valley Christian pummeled Christian Heritage 25-4 in a non-district game. Amy Helton was 2-for-4 with three RBI for RVC (7-4).

\ BOYS' SOCCER: Host Northside bombarded Alleghany in a 13-0 Blue Ridge District victory. The Vikings (4-6-1, 4-4) outshot the Mountaineers 61-2. Matt Curfiss and Jason Belcher each scored three times, and Belcher had two assists. J.J. Larsen added two assists.

At Lord Botetourt, Michael Berry had two goals and an assist to lead undefeated William Byrd to a 4-0 win over Lord Botetourt in a Blue Ridge District game. Kevin Niday and Andy McCaskill each added a goal and an assist for the Terriers (10-0, 8-0).

At Pearisburg, junior Casey Underwood scored two goals to lead Radford (8-3) past Giles 5-1.
