With Durham leading 2-1 in the seventh, Brown doubled off the right-field wall. That hit was followed by an RBI single to right by designated hitter Trace Ragland, who finished 2-for-4. Jeff Conger and Angelo Encarnacion then singled, scoring Ragland to give the Bucs a 3-2 lead.
Brown started the hitting again in the ninth inning with a lead-off double down the right-field line. Ragland added an RBI double to left and scored on a single by Conger for the final margin.
The win was Salem's first in five games against the Bulls this season. The Bucs are 9-14; Durham is 13-12.
Right-hander Esteban Loaiza (3-2) pitched 7 1/3 innings to earn the win. He gave up six hits and two runs while walking one and striking out three. Jeff McCurry pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
Bulls starter Kevin Lomon (2-1) was the loser. He gave up eight hits and three runs in eight innings.
The teams meet for the second game of their four-game series tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Durham with Mariano De los Santos (1-1) on the mound for Salem. John Wilder (2-1) will start for the Bulls.
