VFW POST WINS AWARD FOR COMMUNITY WORK

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4667 has won the state Community Activities Record Book Award for the second straight year.

The Hillsville VFW Post 115 finished second, also for the second year in a row, in judging of community activities based on post record books.

The judging was held in Newport News last weekend.

"It's an honor to win it one year," said Marion VFW spokesman Marshall Guy. He said much of the credit went to Katherine Sochacki, who put the record book together in what one judge said was the most professional manner he had ever seen.

Post 4667 is the fourth largest in Virginia, with 1,209 members. It spent about $56,000 in the past year, raised from weekly bingo games and other activities, on 154 projects.
