WYTHEVILLE MAN KILLED IN DISPUTE WITH GIRLFRIEND

A 30-year-old Wytheville man was killed in Hawkins County, Tenn., when he was thrown or jumped from his girlfriend's car during what authorities are calling a domestic dispute.

Dale Vaught, of North Sixth Street, died Friday at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., from head injuries he sustained April 24.

Sgt. Greg Conant with the Hawkins County Sheriff's Department said Vaught had been in an argument with Janice Davis, 29, formerly of Rural Retreat and now of Surgoinsville, Tenn., when the injuries occurred.

According to statements from Davis and a passenger in her car, Martha Hightower, Vaught tried to get into the car through a passenger window and then climbed on top of it, trying to break in through the sun roof.

Vaught came off the car when Davis pulled out of the driveway and was run over, Davis told police. No charges have been filed. The Sheriff's Department is continuing its investigation. - Southwest bureau
