ABC NEWS RESPONDS TO FOOD LION LAWSUIT

ABC News has asked that Food Lion's $30 million racketeering lawsuit filed last month be dismissed, saying the suit is a public relations campaign to lure back skeptical customers.

ABC News, which broadcast a "PrimeTime Live" segment last year accusing the grocery company of unsanitary food handling, said Food Lion does not question the truthfulness of the show but is angered that sales are dropping as a result of it, according to documents filed in federal court in Greensboro, N.C., on Monday.

ABC News' response to Food Lion's accusations comes just two days before the supermarket chain's annual stockholder meeting.
