RACIAL REMARK IS NO JOKE TO LIMBAUGH

For the second time in two days the White House has had to apologize to one of its biggest antagonists for supposedly humorous comments President Clinton made to the White House Correspondents Association on Saturday.

On Monday, Clinton apologized to Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan. On Tuesday, the apology went to talk-show host Rush Limbaugh.

Clinton had said that Limbaugh came to the defense of Attorney General Janet Reno after the 51-day standoff in Waco, Texas, only "because she was attacked by a black guy."

The president was referring to Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich.

Limbaugh said that he is "absolutely the furthest thing in the world from a racist."

"The president meant to be funny, and it wasn't," White House Communications Director George Stephanopoulos said Tuesday.
