Klein, from Weatherford, Texas, hooked a limit of five bass weighing a total of 20 pounds and 10 ounces from the lake, where the water level still is dropping after recent flooding.
Bill Bartlett of Chattanooga, Tenn., is second with a five-bass catch weighing 20-7, and Mickey Bruce of Buford, Ga., is third with a limit weighing 20-3.
Woo Daves of Spring Grove, Va., caught a limit, too, but they were lightweights totaling 13-1 and had him in 59th place. Daves' son Chris was in 106th at 10-9.
The top 15 anglers, based on the total weights from the six-tournament BASSMASTER Invitational circuit, will go to the BASS Masters Classic in Birmingham, Ala., Aug. 12-14. Daves is in 20th place with 127 pounds, 6 ounces. Through Wednesday, 15th place required 133-13. Klein leads at 319-2.
The top Virginia angler Wednesday was Jimmy Coleman of Amherst, with a limit weighing 14-2. Melvin Morgan Jr. of Vinton is tied for 138th with four fish weighing 9-2. Jack Evans of Vinton is 210th; his two fish total 5-1.
