Golf tourney to benefit Down syndrome group

Mac & Bob's restaurant in Salem will sponsor a golf tournament May 14 to benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Roanoke.

The tournament will be at Hanging Rock Golf Course, with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Registration costs $50 per person or $200 per team. The entry deadline is Wednesday.

A catered lunch and refreshments will be provided, and prizes will be awarded.

May 15 race includes running and cycling

A Stride and Ride biathlon will be held May 15 from 8 a.m. to noon at Green Hill Park in Roanoke County west of Salem.

There will be a two-mile trail run followed by a six-mile mountain bike ride. The event is open to individuals and teams. Entry fee is $10 and includes a T-shirt, trophies, drinks and a picnic after the races.

The event, part of the Roanoke County Fair, will be sponsored by the outdoor education section of the Roanoke County Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, call 387-6091.
