F-C FALLS TO LANCERS IN SOFTBALL

Marsha Harris' run-scoring single snapped a tie and propelled Laurel Park to a 14-13 Piedmont District softball victory over guest Fieldale-Collinsville on Thursday.

Kelly Fackler hit two home runs and drove in three runs for Fieldale-Collinsville, but she also endured the pitching loss. Kelly Gravely tripled and had four RBI for Laurel Park (4-9-1 overall and in the league). She also earned the victory from the mound.

In other softball:

Covington's Michelle Jeter drove in three runs and Laura Morgan tossed a two-hitter as Covington overwhelmed visiting Craig County 15-0.

At Hot Springs, Glenvar scored eight runs in the first two innings and held on for a 10-8 Pioneer District win over Bath County. Cathy Law went 3-for-3 for the Chargers (3-5, 2-5).

Lord Botetourt (10-3, 5-1) started an exclusively freshman and sophomore lineup and beat visiting Rockbridge County 12-1 to sweep a Blue Ridge District doubleheader. Ginger Layman, a sophomore, allowed two hits and struck out eight in five innings. Teresa Snodgrass, a freshman, doubled, tripled and drove in four runs. In the first game, Ashley Moore had a three-run home run and Janell Sowers tossed a one-hitter in a 20-1 victory. The Wildcats are 0-12, 0-7.

On Wednesday, Brenda LaFlamme had a double, a triple and two RBI and was the winning pitcher in leading Tunstall to a 16-6 victory over Laurel Park in Piedmont District play. Stacey Adkins went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Tunstall. Penny Adkins for Laurel Park had a double and RBI.

\ BASEBALL: Rykey Rumbley tossed a three-hitter and had a run-scoring double to lead Roanoke Valley Christian to a 3-2 Virginia Independent Conference victory over Hargrave Military, and Robert Spencer's bases-loaded double gave the Eagles a 15-14 victory in the nightcap. The sweep puts RVC (7-5, 7-5) into the league tournament that starts Tuesday in Lynchburg and knocks Hargrave (5-7, 5-7) out.

Ryan Palmer went 2-for-3 and Salem's Charlie Hammersley and Ryan Blevins each stole home in double-steal situations as Salem upset Alleghany 5-3 for its first Blue Ridge District victory. Blevins also tossed a six hitter for the victory.

At Shawsville, Tony Maxey pitched a three-hitter and Dale Sadler went 3-for-4 as the Shawnees roughed up Bland 9-1 in a Mountain Empire District game. Maxey struck out eight and walked three. Monty Matthews was 2-for-3 for Bland (2-5, 2-5). Shawsville is 8-5, 3-4.

\ BOYS' TENNIS: Glenvar wrapped up the Pioneer District championship by defeating Parry McCluer 8-1. Aaron Johnson (10-0) and Wes Jones (8-0) completed undefeated seasons for the Highlanders (8-2, 4-0).

\ SOCCER: At Northside, Igor Marcello scored two goals and the Vikings outshot Rockbridge County 37-3 in a 5-1 win.
