At Moneta, Chris Dowdy's two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning provided the winning runs as Appomattox defeated Staunton River 6-2.
At Christiansburg, Brad Leonard pitched a six-hitter and struck out 10 as Carroll County blasted Christiansburg 13-5. The Cavaliers got four runs in the first inning and seven more in the fourth.
\ BOYS' TRACK: Toby Fifer of Jefferson Forest won the long jump, high jump, 100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and ran a leg on the winning 1,600 relay to score 21 1/4 points as the Cavaliers won a triangular Seminole District meet at Forest. Jefferson Forest had 67 points, William Campbell 63 and Liberty 30.
\ GIRLS' TRACK: Stephanie Bannister won the 100-, 200-, the long jump and ran a leg on the winning 1,600 relay team to spark William Campbell (67 1/2) to a Seminole District track victory over Lberty (46) and Jefferson Forest (38 1/2) on the Cavaliers' track.
\ SOFTBALL: Covington's Michelle Jeter drove in three runs and Laura Morgan tossed a two-hitter as Covington overwhelmed visiting Craig County 15-0.
\ SOCCER: At River's Edge, Kelly Graham and Brian Melton each scored as William Fleming downed Franklin County 2-1 in a Roanoke Valley District game. Bernie Cerebe scored for the Eagles (4-4-2, 2-3-2). The Colonels are 3-5-1, 1-4-1.
