CRIPPLE CREEK FESTIVAL SPORTS A VARIETY OF FUN

Activities for people of all ages are planned May 15 in Wythe County at the Cripple Creek Homecoming Celebration Day, starting with an 11 a.m. parade.

Lt. Cmdr. J.E. Davis, a retired U.S. Navy officer, will give opening remarks at 11:30 a.m. before lunch at noon. The Cripple Creek community is south of Wytheville.

Last year's homecoming attracted an estimated 1,500 people.

Other activities include clogging by the High Country Stompers at noon, Southern Pride Express at 1:30 p.m. and Heart of Dixie Cloggers at 4 p.m.

There also will be a karate demonstration by Kasey Clemons and a children's fish rodeo, both 12:30 p.m.; horseshoe tournament, 1 p.m.; a duck race, 2 p.m.; ballroom dancing with instruction by June and Glenda Lowe, 2:30 p.m.; music by the Home Town Boys, Dan, Eddie and Freddie Wright, and the Cripple Creek Community Choir, 3 p.m.; and Texas two-step and country line dance with lessons by Stephanie Porter and Dana Suthers, 5:30 p.m.

It all will end with a street dance starting at 6:30 p.m. with music by the Royal Flush Band. - Southwest bureau
