DOORNAPPERS TOOK THEIR KNOCKS AND BEAT THE RAP

Grand larceny charges against three Roanoke College students were dropped Friday, nearly six months after the men stole the front doors from the school's administration building.

Bryan Alcorn, R. Joseph LeGault Jr. and W. Cary Wright admitted stealing the doors in November and holding them for 15 days. The heavy wooden doors eventually were found chained to the overlook at the Mill Mountain Star.

In December, Salem General District Court Judge John Apostolou told the men he would drop the criminal charges if they paid the college $150, performed 50 hours of on-campus community service and wrote a letter of apology.

Judge George Harris, satisfied that Alcorn, LeGault and Wright had met the requirements, dropped the charges after a brief hearing.

The men, all seniors, will graduate today.
