TECH WINS METRO TILT ON WILD PITCH

Virginia Tech's David Fitt scored the winning run on a wild pitch by South Florida reliever David Blank to give the Hokies a 6-5 win in a Metro Conference baseball game Friday in Blacksburg.

Tech (30-11 overall, 8-4 Metro) took a 5-1 lead over the first-place team in the first inning when shortstop Dee Dalton launched a grand slam over the left field fence. The home run was Dalton's 12th of the year.

The Bulls (37-12, 11-2), ranked 21st nationally, got three runs in the sixth to tie the score 5-5.

Fitt singled to left field to open the eighth inning. He moved to second on third baseman Bo Durkac's sacrifice bunt and went to third on rightfielder J.R. Hawkins' groundout to first before scoring the winning run.
