5 FERRUM PLAYERS MAKE CONFERENCE TEAM

Pitchers Billy Wagner and Keith Mayhew headed the list of five Ferrum players chosen for the Dixie Conference All-Conference team. They were joined by first baseman Jerold Smith, catcher Andy Calohan and designated hitter Jason Wilson.

Veteran Paul Radford has moved into the divisional lead in the Late Model Stock Car competition at New River Valley Speedway. Although Radford leads the points, he will be seeking his first victory of the year in the Wade's Supermarkets/Campbell's Deli Marts/Food Time 200 tonight. The 62-year-old driver has finished no lower than fourth in the first three races.

The 100-lap LMSC race will highlight a full racing card including 35 laps for the Limited and 25 each for the Mod Mini, Mini and Pure Stock drivers. Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice starting at 4. Qualifying is at 6:15 and the first green flag falls at 8.

Rick Sigmon has so convincingly dominated the Late Model Stock Car division at Franklin County Speedway this season (winning three out of four races), promoter Whitey Taylor is bringing in some out-of-state competition. Heading the bill tonight will be 24-year-old Chrissy Oliver, from Lenoir, N.C., billed as "the winningest woman in motorsports history."
