Permit puts Connex closer to Botetourt

Connex Pipe Systems, a Marietta, Ohio, manufacturer of metal piping, has moved a step closer to opening a plant in Botetourt County with the issuance of an air pollution permit by the state Department of Environmental Quality.

Although negotiations have not been completed for a Troutville building for Connex, Beth Doughty, executive director of the Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership, said she's "encouraged by the progress."

The permit is for operation of a miscellaneous metal parts and products coating plant. The state agency's Roanoke air pollution control branch was concerned about the use of zinc in the spraying operation. But the agency has decided Connex will use an efficient filter that meets state requirements.
