Hollins employee named college vice president

JAMES L. HAMLIN, director of major and planned gifts at Hollins College since 1988, has been named vice president for development at Central College of Pella, Iowa.

At Hollins, he developed programs that increased capital gifts from $1 million to more than $2.5 million, and planned gifts by almost $1 million.

A native of Illinois, he received a bachelor's degree in political science from Northern Arizona University in 1975.

ARCHITECTURE

RONALD O. CRAWFORD, executive vice president of Sherertz Franklin Crawford Shaffner, Inc., has been elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. He was honored specifically for dedicating his architectural career to serving the elderly and the retirement industry.

He has served on faculties of national conferences and seminars focusing on elderly design issues and has worked as a consultant to manufacturers, assisting them in developing products more appropriate and responsive to the needs of older people. He is also a charter member of a national task force on code changes that support independence and choice for the elderly.

COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES

STARR ALLDREDGE HOWARD has been named graphic designer for Ideas at Work, National Business College's magazine, and Education Systems Corp., the marketing arm of the school. She will be responsible for designing and producing print advertising, four-color brochures and college promotional materials. She previously worked as an advertising artist with Athens Newspapers Inc. in Athen, Ga.

MANUFACTURING

DEBBIE HALLSTEAD of Christiansburg has been promoted to major accounts administrator at Pulaski Furniture Corp. She will coordinate the activity of major accounts of both Pulaski Furniture and the Ridgeway Clocks division. An employee for 10 years, Hallstead previously worked as administrative assistant to the vice president of sales.
