FIFTH-GRADE SCIENCE ALREADY WONDERFUL

We would like to reply to the article that appeared in The Current on April 2. We don't agree with Ms. Namboodri's statement that "The middle schools have science classes, and we thought we'd give them a taste of it right before they'd go so that maybe they'll be excited when they get there." We are already excited about science in our fifth-grade classes!

In our fifth-grade classes at Margaret Beeks we have science every day for at least 45 minutes. We do lots of exciting experiments throughout the year. Some examples of the experiments we have done are: surface tension, pepper mover, perfect circle, cork center stage, water pressure, hole in the bottle, acid rain, wetter water, buoy oh buoy and sink or swim.

We have also done many animal-instinct and animal-behavior experiments. Recently we completed a consumer project dealing with the environment that combined science and social studies. Experiments done during that time were: package it, egg cargo and slime making.

We believe we have a wonderful science class and we want everybody to know it.\ Felix Davis, Brendan Adams, Jess Donathan, Stephane Regniere, Jessica Parrish, Josiah Reed, David Cho, Ethan Knocke, Nathan McLeod, Christopher Rees, James Harder, Meredith Walters, Catherine de Castro, Andrew Fagan, Douglas Atwater, Erin L.
