First baseman Mike Brown blasted a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Buccaneers a 2-0 lead. Brown was the only Salem player to have more than one hit.
The Spirits rallied in the third and took a 5-2 lead when Bobby Perna slammed a home run and Chad Mottola added a two-run homer. Winston-Salem earned two more unearned runs in the fourth to chase Salem starter Matt Ruebel (0-2) from the mound.
The Bucs (13-15) got their last run when Don Garvey reached on a two-out single in the seventh and catcher Angelo Encarnacion hit a double to score Garvey.
Jones sealed the win for Winston-Salem with a two-run double in the eighth.
Carl Stewart (2-1) pitched a complete game for the Spirits (14-15). He gave up six hits and walked none. \
