OBIT SMITH, JERRY MELVIN

SMITH, Jerry Melvin, 55, of Newport, died Thursday, May 6, 1993. Born in Pembroke, he was a son of Eria A. Smith of Pembroke and the late Lillie Hare Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, Vietnam Era and was awarded the Purple Heart and was employed with the Blacksburg Transit Authority. Also surviving are three brothers, Donald E. Smith, Christiansburg, Eria A. Smith, Pearisburg, Lowell L. Smith, Newport; four sisters, Margaret (Tippie) S. Price, Blacksburg; Linda S. Radford, Pembroke, Judy S. Raines, Newport, Bonnie S. Mitchum, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, Pembroke. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery, Newport, Va. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
