Looking for warm, friendly companionship?
Have we got the place for you!
The Montgomery County Humane Society has tons of previously owned dogs and cats looking for good new homes.
The shelter, located in a former kennel just off Interstate 81 at Exit 114, finds homes for about 800 anivmals a year.
Of course, it also takes in about the same number and the shelter usually is over capacity, with more than 100 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.
Some have been at the shelter for a year or more because the Montgomery County Humane Society does not kill animals, except in rare cases of ill health.
Of course, the shelter is the place to take an unwanted pet or strays if you don't want it killed.
Anyone adopting a pet is required to complete an application and agree to give the new pet a good home, maintain its shots and have it spayed or neutered, if needed.
The cost is $20 for unspayed and unneutered pets, plus the cost of having the pet fixed. Pets already spayed or neutered cost $35.
The Humane Society is a private, nonprofit organization and gets no county or other public funds, so it relies on adoption fees and public support.
The animal shelter is open Wednesday through Friday from noon to 6:30 p.m., Saturday from noon to 6 and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The shelter's phone number is 382-1166.
