DOGS REQUIRED TO BE LICENSED

Dogs must be licensed in the New River Valley. Radford, Montgomery County, Pulaski County and Wythe County sell reduced-cost licenses for dogs that have been spayed or neutered. Proof of rabies shots is required. Dogs must have licenses after the first vaccination.

Here's where to purchase a dog license:

\ Radford: Treasurer's office, municipal building; Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., 731-3661; $4 for sexed, $2 for unsexed; by Jan. 30.

\ Montgomery County: Treasurer's office, county courthouse, Christiansburg; Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; 382-5723; $5 for sexed; $3 for unsexed; kennel tags: 20 dogs for $25, 50 dogs for $35; by Feb. 1. Licenses also are available at Blacksburg Finance Department, municipal building; Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; 961-1105.

\ Pulaski County: Treasurer's office, Third Street courthouse, Pulaski; Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; 980-7785; $5 for sexed; $3 for unsexed; by Feb. 1.

\ Giles County: Treasurer's office, new county office building (old bank building), Pearisburg; Monvday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday 8-11 a.m.; 921-1240; $7.50 for all; kennel tags $25; by Jan. 30.
