TECH GOLFERS TAKE 8TH IN TOURNAMENT

Virginia Tech finished tied for eighth Sunday at the Palmetto Intercollegiate Golf Classic in Charleston, S.C.

The Hokies had the fourth-lowest round, shooting 293. Sean Farrell and Tom Graziano shot even-par 72s, Clayton Friend shot 73 and Lewis Conner had 76 for the Hokies. Friend finished 18th individually with a 221 aggregate.

Third-ranked Clemson won the team title by shooting 291 in the final round for an 867 total, eight strokes better than Augusta College. Florida State was third.

Andrew Anderson of East Carolina was the medalist, beating Richard Johnson of Augusta in a sudden-death playoff. Both finished regulation play at 4-under-par 212. - Staff report
