OBIT BASSETT, J. ELIZABETH TEMPLE
BASSETT, J. Elizabeth Temple, 83, of Richfield Retirement Community, died
Friday, May 7, 1993. She was the widow of Walden E. Bassett, a member and
elder of First Presbyterian Church, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a retired
teacher after 36 years with the Roanoke City Schools and a graduate of State
Teachers College in Farmville. Surviving are two stepdaughters, Mrs. William
K. (Sandra) Beasley and Mrs. T. A. (Beverly) Franklin; a sister-in-law, Mrs.
Henry L. Roediger Jr., Danville; two nieces, Miss Betsy Temple, Fresno,
Calif., Mrs. Peter (Ellen) Brown, Woodbury, Minn.; and a great-niece, Juanita
Temple, Fresno, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside,
Evergreen Burial Park, 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 1993, with a memorial service
at First Presbyterian Church (Lapsley Chapel) 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev.
Robert D. Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial
contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church (2101 South Jefferson St.,
Roanoke, Va. 24014). The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at
Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
