MANHOLE RULE A GOOD RESPONSE

I commend Roanoke County and city for taking the necessary measures to monitor waste at the point it flows into sewer lines by requiring that all new commercial buildings install special manholes. I commend the officials' vision of looking to the future. I encourage city officials to enforce this ordinance.

As a community, I recommend that we develop an ecological awareness of our responsibility to ensure the well-being of present and future generations. Our ecological problems demand local, everyday responses along with broader systemic remedies involving public policy. JEAN FORREST ROANOKE
