SO?

Paul Wright, a sixth-grader at Mountain View Elementary in Roanoke County, will find out what it's like to zoom into space when he attends U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala., this fall.

Wright was one of 100 kids who won the trip in a contest sponsored by Cox Cable Roanoke, Inc., and WGN/United Video, Inc. After watching the WGN program "The Cosmic Challenge . . . For Kids' Sake" in February, Wright answered nine questions about space asked during the show. His entry was chosen from more than 40,000.

Wright will have an opportunity to participate in realistic astronaut training, including a simulated space shuttle mission.

Sunday was a day to honor our mothers, and the flags were flying to prove it. But dads won't get the same treatment. Father's Day is not listed as an "official" flag day, and no one seems to know why.

After World War I, a group of patriotic organizations got together to come up with a flag code that would give the flag a little more respect as a symbol. Congress approved the plan in the early 1940s. This code included certain days that the flag should be displayed. The code was updated in 1976, but Father's Day wasn't included. The president can proclaim an official day for flag-raising. So if you'd like to make a suggestion, write: President Bill Clinton, The White House, Washington D.C. 20500.
