OBIT-BARKLEY, HARRY THOMAS
BARKLEY, Harry Thomas, 98, of Savannah, Ga. and formerly of Roanoke, died
Sunday, May 9, 1993, at the Candler General Hospital in Savannah. He was a
native of Augusta County, Va. and lived most of his life in Roanoke, moving to
Savannah eight years ago. He was a member of the Villa Heights Baptist Church
in Roanoke, where he was the oldest member. He taught the mens bible class for
40 years and was a former member of the Chancel Choir. In Savannah, he
attended Calvary Baptist Temple where he was a member of the Extension
Department. He retired from Norfolk & Western Railway in Roanoke after 68
years of service. Surviving are a son, James W. Barkley of Savannah, Ga.; and
also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke
Chapel, noon Thursday, with the Rev. J. Landon Maddex and the Rev. Harold C.
Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may
call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
