The psychotic cult leader, who had complete control of the minds of the cult members, could have been taken into custody when he was out of the compound jogging or out in the community. But the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms spent weeks of training and planning for their attack. Even after knowing that the cult had been forewarned, government agents were ordered into cattle trucks to be driven to the compound.
This is not just an isolated incident, but one in a series of cases where lives have been lost because of the inept leadership of the agency. After four of its agents were killed, the Federal Bureau of Investigation took over.
There should be a congressional investigation of the treatment of American citizens by a government that is out of control. RALPH G. DARLING SALEM
