PLOT, CHARACTERIZATION SUBJECTS OF WORKSHOP

A workshop for aspiring novelists on plot and characterization will be offered from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Books by novelist Robert McKinney.

McKinney will show how to plot a story, build drama and bring it to a satisfactory conclusion. He will also discuss what he calls the "36 plots" and how they can be varied and combined.

Elements of characterization to be covered include making characters vivid through small details, realistic dialogue, finding character models and combining them to create unique individuals.

Class size is limited, so advance registration is required. The $30 registration fee also covers materials. Checks should be made payable to Blue Ridge Books, 148 W. Main St., Wytheville 24383 (telephone 228-8303). - Southwest bureau
