Tech took a 2-0 lead when Dalton, from Roanoke, hit a solo home run, his 11th of the season, and catcher Denny Hedspeth's single brought home first baseman Ken Nonamaker. In the third inning, third baseman Bo Durkac homered for a 3-2 lead, and in the fifth Durkac doubled home a run and scored on Dalton's double for a 5-2 lead. The Dukes pulled to 5-4 in the sixth, but Tech added three more in the bottom of the inning and another run in the eighth to pull away.
Tech's Ron Preston (6-3) got the victory in 6 innings of work. JMU starter Kevin Woody (2-1) took the loss. Durkac had four of Tech's 13 hits, and right fielder J.R. Hawkins and Dalton had two each. For James Madison (21-21), left fielder Chris Williams had three of the Dukes' 10 hits.

Ferrum College left-handed pitcher Billy Wagner, considered a top pro prospect, will pitch against Virginia Tech in a scrimmage 3 p.m. today at English Field. Ferrum coach Abe Naff said Wagner will pitch two or three innings, probably late in the game.
Roanoke College received verbal commitments from two men's basketball players. Courtney Fitch, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from The Hun School in Princeton, N.J., and Adam Griffen, a 6-foot-2 playmaker from Forsyth Country Day School in Winston-Salem, N.C., will join the Maroons for the 1993-94 season. Roanoke also has signed Jason Bishop of Rye Cove, Tim Braun of Bridgewater and Derek Bryant of Rocky Mount for next season.
Four members of the Roanoke women's lacrosse team have received All-South Region honors. Senior Tracy Tahaney and sophomores Liz Florence and Kerry Campbell were chosen to the first team, and Kathleen Ostar received an honorable mention.
