PUTNEY TO SEEK RE-ELECTION

Independent Del. Lacey Putney, who has served in the state House of Delegates since 1962, has announced he will run for re-election.

In a written statement distributed Tuesday, Putney, 64, said he will seek a 17th term to the 19th District House seat.

The district includes most of Bedford County, parts of Botetourt and Rockbridge counties and the cities of Bedford and Buena Vista.

A native of Big Island, Putney is a member of House committees for Appropriations, Privileges and Elections, and Agriculture. He is the senior member of the General Assembly.

A graduate of Big Island High School and of Washington and Lee University and its law school, Putney practices law in Bedford. Putney said he plans to continue to push for state funding for Buena Vista's flood protection project. He cited the same goal two years ago when he announced his re-election.

Putney said he also planned to press for more state funding of highway projects: U.S. 501 in Big Island, U.S. 221 in Forest, Virginia 24 in Stewartsville, Virginia 122 in Moneta and U.S. 220 in Botetourt County.
