OBIT SPENCE, ARTHUR DALLAS SR.

SPENCE, Arthur Dallas Sr., 93, of Willis, died Monday, May 10, 1993, at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. He was born January 4, 1900 in Willis. He was a retired superintendent of Martin Brothers Construction Company of Roanoke and farmed in Willis after his retirement. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katie S. McCaughey and a son, Arlie Kenneth Spence. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Maye Martin Spence, Willis; one son and two daughters-in-law, Arthur D. Jr. and Virginia Spence, Willis, Madeline B. Spence, Willis; one son-in-law, Louis ("Mac") McCaughey, Fairfax; one sister, Martha Shelor, Shawsville; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, special nephew, Harold Spence, Willis. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Willis United Methodist Church or the Arlie Kenneth Spence Scholarship Fund c/o the Blue Ridge Bank.
