OBIT FISHER, BERTYE JANE

FISHER, Bertye Jane, 99, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, May 11, 1993, at Virginia's Rest Home. She was born in Cedar Springs, a daughter of the late William Hicks Fisher and Sara Serena Phillippe Fisher. She was a retired high school teacher and principal, and owned and operated a licensed home for adults. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles K. Fisher and William Ryburn Fisher; two sisters, Mozelle Fisher Stroud and Anna Ruth Fisher; one half brother, Ellis M. Fisher; a half nephew, Dale Fisher. She is survived by one sister, Thelma Fisher Phillippi, Cedar Springs; two nephews, Charles "Jr." Fisher, Sacramento, Calif., Douglas Fisher, Hayden-Lake, Ind.; two nieces, Joyce Fisher Wojekowski, Wytheville, Frances Nanfredo, Fresno, Calif.; two half nieces, Maxine Fisher Humphries, Bess Fisher Bowers, both of Cedar Springs; three half nephews, Arleigh Steele Fisher, Wytheville, Shaylor Fisher, Moneray, Tenn., Dr. James Fisher, Knoxville, Tenn.; numerous great-nephews, nieces, and other relatives and close friends from around the country also survive. Graveside services and interment will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Asbury U.M.C. Cemetery in Cedar Springs with the Rev. Robert Billingsley officiating. Friends may call after noon Thursday at the Barnett Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to Asbury U.M.C. (Cedar Springs/Rural Retreat), Wythe County Rescue Squad, or St. Paul United Methodist Church Youth Fund, Wytheville. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, is in charge of the arrangements.
