ROANOKE-AREA VOLUNTEERS WIN RECOGNITION

The Voluntary Action Center of Roanoke Valley, a program of the Council of Community Services, has announced the names of the regional Governor's Award for Volunteering Excellence winners and nominees.

Roanoke-area gold medalists are James M. Kastner of Salem and TRUST volunteers of Roanoke. Silver medalists are Hospice of Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County and Literacy Volunteers of America-Roanoke Valley.

The other nominees were: Mary Alice Coleman of Roanoken Dillard Paper Co. of Roanoke, Laura Bondurant Elliott of Roanoke, Dennis W. Ferguson of Martinsville, Friends of the Roanoke Symphony, Connie Gibson of Hardy, Martha Gregory of Roanoke, Barbara E. Higgins of Roanoke, Huntington Court United Methodist Church of Roanoke, Kiwanis Club of Salem, William H. McGuire of Covington, Leonard McMaster of Martinsville, Richard M.
