HIGH SCHOOL MEETS GOING TO TECH

Virginia Tech will be host to the Group A, AA and AAA state high school meets this fall, Hokies cross country coach Steve Taylor said.

The Virginia High School League awarded the meets to Tech, which is building an on-campus cross country course. Work will begin "no later than next week," assistant athletic director Don Perry said.

"We're very excited about it," Taylor said.

The 3.1-mile course, Perry said, will begin near the outfield fence of English Field, parallel Southgate Drive to Route 460, loop past the Smithfield Plantation and Tech's veterinary school and close the loop near the baseball field. It will have several stream crossings and will have a seating area near the finish line for spectators.
