WARNER SAYS HE'LL SEEK FOURTH TERM

U.S. Sen. John Warner said Thursday that only ill health would bar him from seeking a fourth term in 1996.

Warner's office released the text of a fund-raising letter that he plans to mail next week to about 20,000 supporters. The letter seeks $35 from each "to allow me to keep in touch with you for a year" without using his congressional office allowance.

Warner is the second-ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, where he uses his influence to try to keep defense dollars flowing into Virginia. He also is vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Warner, who will be 66 in 1996 when his current term expires, made his public announcement of his re-election plans in answer to a question on a television show on WRIC-TV in Richmond. The show will air Sunday at 1 p.m. - Associated Press
