BAPTIST SEMINARY BACKS WOMEN AS MINISTERS

The faculty of Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond has endorsed the ordination of women as ministers.

The seminary is backed by Southern Baptist moderates while most of the denomination's institutions have come under control of biblical fundamentalists.

The faculty resolution contrasted with a statement by the new president-elect of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He said he opposes ordination of women.

"Recent events have demonstrated there are forces at work among Baptists seeking to exclude women from their God-called role of ministry and service," the Richmond faculty said.
