HIGHLANDERS TRIUMPH 10-3 IN BIG SOUTH

Sophomore Mark Walker pitched the first complete game of his career and was helped by six runs in the first two innings as Radford beat Winthrop, 10-3, at the Big South baseball tournament Friday in Conway, S.C. The Highlanders advanced to play sixth-seeded Liberty late Friday night.

Walker (5-1) scattered nine hits for fifth-seeded Radford (28-17). His only trouble was in the eighth when fourth-seeded Winthrop (27-30) scored all three of its runs, one of them on a wild pitch.

Radford was led by shortstop Tom Curran, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI. Designated hitter Brian Pardue had two hits and 3 RBI.

In the day's first game, Maryland-Baltimore County defeated Coastal Carolina 8-2 on a two-out, three-run homer by Andy Coleman. Liberty defeated Towson State 4-2.
