AUTO RACING-EXTRA PRIZE MONEY OFFERED AT FCS

A special $500 prize will be awarded in the 100-lap Late Model race of the Kingery Brothers 300 at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway tonight, if a former track champion wins the event. Two-time defending champion Dicky Wilson, winless this season but third in the points race, is expected to be the top challenger. Ronnie Newman, the winner two weeks ago, also is eligible. The first race begins at 8 p.m. Gates open at noon. Admission is $5 and children under 10 are admitted free.

Forty-four drivers have entered the first 200-lap race on the special $50,000 Late Model Stock Car Challenge Series to be held as part of the Valley Rich/X-Press Markets 300 tonight at New River Valley Speedway in Radford. The field represents the best LMSC drivers from a four-state area. Mike Buffkin, Todd Massey, Mike Skinner, former track champion Danny Willis and Ronnie Ratliff join a host of regular drivers.

Returning for his second week of action is Kerry Earnhardt, 22-year-old son of Dale Earnhardt, who will be driving the Roanoke-based car of Russell and Gloria Letchford. Tonight's schedule includes races for the Limited Sportsmen, Modified Mini Stock, Mini Stock and Pure Stock drivers.

Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice starting at 4. Time trials get underway at 6:15, with the first green flag falling at 8 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $1 for children 10 and under.
