The Two-Cents-a-Meal program provides a simple way for individuals and families to fight hunger locally and abroad. Participants donate 2 cents for each time they sit down to eat. Contributions are collected, usually monthly, during Sunday services.
Churches report the small change can do big things to help local, national and international food programs do their work. A Christiansburg Presbyterian spokeswoman said the congregation recently contributed several hundred dollars to a local food bank. She said the rest of their Two-Cents-A-Meal offering is funneled to other hunger programs through The Presbytery of the Peaks.
For the athletically inclined, the Christiansburg church's tennis round-robin event gets under way Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Round Meadow Country Club. All playing levels are welcome. If you'd like to get in on the action, call Denny Woodyard at 382-4200 days, or 382-8978 evenings.
