NEITHER ENGINE ON KULWICKI PLANE WORKING

Neither engine was working on a plane that crashed, killing NASCAR driver Alan Kulwicki and three others, investigators said.

The plane's propellers were positioned as if the pilot was trying to minimize their drag as he maneuvered the powerless craft. But the cause of the crash still eludes investigators.

"We don't know what caused the engines to fail or why the pilot couldn't maintain some type of control of the aircraft," said Brent Bahler, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board. The agency continues probing the cause of the fatal crash on April 1. A final report may not come until the end of summer. - Associated Press
