Filmmaker Spike Lee will be honored by the Muslim Public Affairs Council in Los Angeles for his biographical movie "Malcolm X."

Lee will receive the 1993 Entertainment Media Award at a formal ceremony at the Century Plaza Hotel on May 19, which commemorates the birthday of the slain civil rights leader, according to Elissa Vecchione, a publicist.

The annual award recognizes positive portrayals of Islam in the entertainment media.
