CONSTRUCTIVE STEPS IGNORED IN FRANKLIN

THE FRANKLIN County Board of Supervisors promised on April 27 to give an additional $1.5 million to public schools. They are considering raising our taxes by 10 cents on $100 assessed value, rather than just 3 cents as earlier proposed. This is very impressive, for it will give the schools badly needed money and it says to the community and its neighbors that Franklin County sees education as something important enough to back with money, as well as words.

In the April 28 edition of the Roanoke Times & World-News, there was no mention of this. Instead, you ran an article about our racial tensions. And there was nothing in the April 29 edition either. I can't help but assume that you are more interested in Franklin's troubles than its successes. BARBARA GARST BOONES MILL
