BUCS PUT END TO CANNONS' WINNING STREAK

The Salem Buccaneers stopped a three-game Prince William winning streak with a 6-5 victory over the Cannons in an error-filled Carolina League baseball game Sunday.

With the Bucs leading 1-0, Prince William committed four errors in the third inning, allowing three runs to score and put Salem up 4-0. In the fifth inning, two Cannons runs scored on a pair of errors by Salem second baseman Chance Sanford, making it 4-3.

No player for Salem had more than one hit. Marty Neff, Jeff Conger, Tony Womack, Joe Ronca and Angelo Encarnacion all singled for the Bucs (17-18). Encarnacion's hit drove in two runs in the eighth.

Tate Seefried had two hits for Prince William (16-19) including a lead-off home run in the fourth inning. Eric Knowles was 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

Gary Wilson was the winning pitcher, improving to 3-0. He threw five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out three.

Salem, one game behind Kinston in the Southern Division, travels to Lynchburg today to begin a series with the Red Sox.

\ BUCSHOTS: In Saturday's game, the Bucs were limited to three hits in a 4-1 loss to the Cannons. Seefried broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the sixth inning and Knowles had a two-run single off Salem reliever Kevin Rychel as Prince William scored three runs in the sixth. Womack, Keith Thomas and Marcus Hanel had the only Salem hits. Losing pitcher Dennis Konuszewski dropped to 0-6. \
