The Hokies (34-13) finished in a second-place tie with Southern Mississippi in the Metro regular season, but received the No. 3 seed because the Golden Eagles won two out of three over the weekend at Tech.
South Florida (40-16) is the top seed in the seven-team, double-elimination tournament and receives a first-round bye. Tulane, UNC Charlotte, VCU and Louisville are the fourth through seventh seeds, respectively. Tulane is the defending champion.
The tournament is scheduled through Saturday, with a potential Sunday game, if necessary.
