MW WINDOWS BUYS DISTRIBUTION CENTER

MW Windows of Rocky Mount said Monday it has purchased Triangle Distributors of Tupelo, Miss., a wholesale building products company with a distribution center, for $1.9 million.

MW, trade name for MW Manufacturers, will operate the 200,000-square-foot center as MW Windows, Tupelo Distribution. The company, started in 1956, has 60 employees.

MW Windows will be shipped from Rocky Mount to Tupelo for assembly and distribution. The Mississippi center's trade area will grow from a current radius of 150 miles to 250 to 300 miles, according to Tom Woods, the company's vice president for finance.

MW, a division of Hanson Plc. of England, has 1,560 employees at eight factories and distribution centers. About 1,000 people work at the headquarters plant in Rocky Mount. All but 30 of the 100 who were laid off earlier this year have been recalled.

Triangle's products include wood and clad windows, door units, mouldings and other millwork. David Colbert, who will continue as plant manager in Tupelo, said the MW acquisition and the plant's recent product development "creates an excellent opportunity" for new business and expanded market share. - Staff report
