BUCS STRIKE OUT AGAINST RED SOX

Rob Henkel pitched a four-hitter and struck out 12 to help Lynchburg snap a six-game losing streak with a 7-1 Carolina League baseball victory over Salem on Monday night.

Henkel allowed two hits and his only walk and run in the first inning. The Buccaneers took a 1-0 lead when Mike Brown singled home Chance Sanford, who had walked and moved to second on a single by Ken Bonifay.

After Salem starter Dave Doorneweerd retired the first eight batters of the game, the Red Sox struck for four runs in the third inning. The big blow was Jose Malave's three-run home run, his seventh of the season, which extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Lynchburg tacked on three runs in the seventh inning, two on a double by Bob Juday.

Henkel struck out the side in the ninth inning and recorded five of the last six outs by strikeout. He allowed one hit after the fourth inning.
