Rugaber joins Lynn Farrar, vice president for marketing at C.B. Fleet Co. Inc., and Anna Lawson, anthropologist and civic leader, as the board's newest members.
Rugaber holds a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University. He also completed the Program for Management and Development at the Harvard Business School.
Rugaber joined The New York Times in 1965 as a correspondent, and later served as assistant news editor and deputy news editor in Washington. In 1978, became executive editor of the Greensboro Daily News & Record, and was named to the Roanoke position in 1982. He serves on the Pulitzer Board.
Farrar, a 1978 Hollins graduate, is in business management for the Lynchburg-based C.B. Fleet, a pharmaceutical company. She holds a master's degree from Yale University School of Organization and Management and has been a marketing executive with Procter & Gamble Co. and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Lawson, of Daleville, holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Hollins. Lawson, who will soon complete her Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Virginia, has been a consultant for the Kettering Foundation and president of the Hollins College Alumnae Association.
